DCC
NEW LOOK 101
Reg # 13974138
The Angus and Club Calf industries are searching for
an Angus bull that can sire real muscle, shape, structural soundness, correctness,
efficient converter of grass A…N…D……can
produce a “look of desirability”.
Cane
Ridge decided to END their search for such
a sire when Kirk Duff, owner of Duff Cattle Company; Hobart, OK, agreed
to sell one-half interest and full possession of DCC New Look 101 to us.
New
Look has proven himself in his ability to do
these things by siring a $39,000 awesome son, DCC Outlook 472. His maternal
sister produced a $34,000 daughter and the list will get longer…and…longer.
New Look is siring excellent muscle, large capacity,
extraordinary feet and leg structure, great design, phenotype and the ability
to do this with EXTREME consistency.
The
industry is C H A N G I N G and breeders are returning to
sires that can make a difference...........
DCC
NEW LOOK 101
is that
kind of sire!

The word is out about
DCC New Look and his progeny, and the word is “awesome”!
Our 2007 spring and fall calf crops marked our first sizable crops of New
Look progeny and we couldn’t be happier with the result. They are exactly
what we had hoped for, and maybe even a little better. Big bodied, maintenance-free,
heavy structured, thick cattle with style – black and polled and powerful!
New Look is a “throwback” bull with the look of the future. His
progeny are a return to the good, old-fashioned values that made Angus cattle
great – low birth, optimum growth, low maintenance, high fertility,
timeless good looks – but they have enough modern “beef business” about
them – a balanced array of EPD values, positive carcass numbers, and
his progeny have proven themselves to excel their contemporaries in the feedyard
- to make them work well for today and tomorrow.
DCC New Look 101 is a great breeding bull
whose value is even greater than expected.
In cooperation with our New Look partner, Duff Cattle Company, we are offering
a limited release of 150 straws of DCC New Look semen in our 2007 auction.
And, in a first time ever offering, 100 straws of this offering will
be sorted and frozen as sexed heifer semen. We intend to take
advantage of this modern technology in our own herds – though the first sorted semen we will
freeze is being offered here – and we have decided to let our customers
in on this great improvement tool. We feel strongly that this could be the
no-hassle genetic improvement opportunity of the year; New Look heifer calves
by the bunches – the world could be a beautiful place
NOTE
ON DCC NEW LOOK 101 SEMEN QUALITY & COLLECTION PROTOCOL:
Much has been made lately of the quality, or lack thereof, of frozen
semen, especially sorted/sexed semen. Rumors have run wild on the topic
and have sparked considerable concern among certain producers who fear extremely
low conception rates and decreased embryo production from the use of sorted/sexed
semen. While it is true that in early trials the conception rates/embryo
production resulting from the use of sexed semen were lower than those achieved
using unsexed semen, most of these results can be attributed to either a
lack of understanding or the lesser concentration of semen in a given straw
due to the sorting/sexing process.
So, after consulting with leaders in the development of this new technology,
we have developed what we feel is a somewhat simple solution to the problem – freeze
our New Look semen at a great concentration. We want to achieve one thing
with this project: simple success for our customers and us. And, since we
will using the sexed semen vigorously in our own programs, we have instructed
Dr. Larry Redman at Reproductive Enterprises Inc (REI) to collect and freeze
our sexed New Look semen at 5 million sperm cells per milliliter, or more
than twice times the industry standard. This process will take significantly
longer to accomplish – we just started in September 2007 - and will
also raise our input costs considerably, but we feel that it is the right
move for our customers and us. Studies, analysis, and opinion show that this
greater concentration of sperm cells in our frozen sexed semen will not only
minimize the early problems that producers have faced but also enhance the
results that can be expected from the use of this semen.
Please keep in mind that sexed semen is only offered in a one-quarter cc
straw as opposed to unsexed semen that is offered in one-half cc straws.
Also, it is recommended that technicians use four straws for embryo collection
to get the recommended 20 million sperm count.
